Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Jack W — 22 Apr 2009
I have two initial problems with this film. First, unless you are Jewish you have no idea and cannot learn what it is to be Jewish. Second, limiting the scope of anti-racism film simplifies the issue. BUT, for a film to deal with this subject matter, closely on the heels of WWII and pre-McCarthy era vigilance aimed towards Hollywood is brave and stunning.
The performances turned in by Peck and the others in the film are riveting and spot on. Kudos to Zanuck for pushing this film through.
