Review of Genius (2016) by Dee B — 26 Jun 2016
"Genius" is about relationship: Thomas Wolfe to Perkins, to Fitzgerald, to Hemingway, to his benefactor lover, to Perkins wife, Louise (a non relationship and even a negative to Louise as he so flippantly encourages Perkins to indulge at the jazz lounge with the paid girls.
That doesn't count as cheating. His relationship to his writing: driven by it, to it, all encompassing. So he and his writing are the center, the hub around which the character spokes rotate and tangle.
Jude Law is brilliant as Thomas Wolfe. Colin Firth is brilliant as Perkins Guy Pearce as F. Scott Fitzgerald...emotionally charged storytelling about storytelling, life and death.
