What makes this film work so well is a stronger focus on Billie Jean King's turning point in her personal life, as opposed to her career. While the actual tennis match is intended as the main focus, it takes a back seat for Riggs and King in their respective life struggles.
The performances of Carrell and Stone are excellent, with particular attention on Stone's incredible portrayal as Billie Jean King.
