Review of Gattaca (1997) by Ken B — 03 Sep 2011
Even as a kid this struck me as poignant. It's the most plausible sci-fi movie. It respects the audience's intelligence by conveying much of its' plot through showing actions rather than saying it all explicitly.
The opening scene's grandiose music makes it silly when you consider you're watching nail clippings land, heavy as elephant steps. Imagine if parents did craft kids that were their best possible genetic pairing. We'd be very refined as a species in only a few generations.
