Review of Gattaca (1997) by Joe H — 17 Sep 2012
Old school science fiction film !!! And guess what ?!! It's a fucking kick ass too ( Ethan Hawke I really do love you ! One of my fav actors ever) I can never get enough from Hawke simply cause he is so precise so good at what he is doing its really is a pleasure watching him on screen ! This movie is set in the "not-too-distant future", where liberal eugenics is common and DNA plays the major role in determining social class.
Vincent Freeman ( Ethan Hawke) is born without the help of this aid technology , essentially making him "in valid " ( the most lower class cause his generics are not perfect and he has the potential to get many dieseses and his life tendency is short ) .
As a result , he can not be accepted to any high profile jobs , education etc . ( pretty much discrimination and prejudice at its finest only this time the cause is genetics ) Despite all the obstacles in his way he manages to get his dream come true ( becoming an astronaut) .
It's a thought provoking film with a very powerful message - don't ever let any one tell you what you can and what you cant do . know your limits , go after your dreams and make them come true ! Cause genetics are not everything ! Watch this movie , it's a must see :).
