Review of Gattaca (1997) by José F — 19 Sep 2011
The movie started with words " not too distant future" and made me wonder whether it is actually true or not. The environment or locations of the movie make me feel that ya it is not much advanced.
Cars run on road, rockets fly on sky, people sit on chair and have keyboard computer. So ya it is not much advanced. But then they show some thing so advanced that I think it is not possible to imagine to happening in many centuries.
They show that we so advanced that we can human robots. I mean we can already plan humans ability before they are born then certainly they are robots not humans or since they have emotions they are human and not robot.
so I used the term human robot, implying that they could be both. Ok lets assume that it is possible that human can be so advanced but then can't human even find solution for specks? ok lets discuss about the story.
It involves a man who was born naturally with hearth problems and dream to fly on space. thats sounds cool dream but problem is that such people are not hired any more, demand is for human robots and not only humans .
So if you are human then expect to clean floors and etc. So what does our hero do? he lends some human robot body who can get him job in Gattaca, a place like NASA I think. So first tension viewers need to fight is about vincent secret might not be disclosed before he achieves his dream.
but wrong I didn't felt inch of tension in this movie. Second tension involves a murder of director of gattaca, now vincent secret is tough to hide. So we have to watch this movie in lot of tension?ya right? no, script never tried to thrill our viewers.
it went slowly, we always sure some how that nothing will happen to our hero. It was interesting story but director didn't tried to make it suspense or thriller movie. It was simple story of a man who can cross any line to fulfilled his dreams.
It works in that way. but miss opportunity ruin fun for me.
