Review of Gattaca (1997) by Alex D — 21 Jun 2010
If anyone has questions off what a good director can achieve with a good but difficult story - this movie is it. Set is future it takes on a very real threat posed by the new bio-science and lays it open before you.
In midst the characters struggle in their very human ways to bring meaning to their own lives. Jerome is humanity as its weakest as well as at its strongest - a nice dichotomy to play with for the director.
And he pulls it off with flair. Actors are all fantastic (especially Ethan Hawke), direction is very good, and editing is excellent. The movie does suffer on production values and cinematography probably attributable to tight budget.
But still it gives you a very nice overall package. More than a one time see.
