Review of Gaslight (1940) by Simon T — 06 May 2015
Cukor's later Hollywood version tries to make Patrick Hamilton's celebrated stage play a whodunnit. Dickinson's earlier British version wisely concentrates on the psychological cruelty and chauvinism.
Marvellously acted and photographed, and surprisingly short. Walbrook offers another fine study in buttoned-up insanity.
