Review of Garden State (2004) by Jeni P — 30 Nov 2012
I haven't seen Garden State since 2005 but I still listen to that soundtrack on occasion. I think the soundtrack is pretty good for what it is, a mixtape that evokes a specific mood and captures a moment in time very well.
The actual movie is slightly more watchable but way more corny and self-indulgent than I remembered. This might be the granddaddy of cloying, quirky Indiesploitation and it's also one of the most visually uninteresting movies commercially available.
It's like the movie equivalent of being on lithium. Just watch Scrubs.
