Review of Gangster Squad (2013) by Logan M — 06 Apr 2014
I did not know much about this movie and probably wouldn't have watched it if it hadn't been for the free weekend of HBO of Dish Network. That being said, I do generally like this type of shoot em' up old school good vs.
evil movie. The ones that make you wonder who actually the bad guy is. This movie seemed to fit the bill rather well. Although the description listed three of the main characters, I was pleasantly surprised to see such an all-star cast line up.
I must also say that they all seemed to fit their respective parts rather well. The movie has the typical amount of violence that a movie of this type is known for. Even with all the violence and action the movie seemed to move along at a slow pace.
I cannot pin point exactly why, just the way it felt. This was of no fault of the actors, but rather seemed like the issue lied deeper within in the writing more than anything. It seemed like they struggled taking the true details of this story and making them into a movie, although I am quite certain is it loosely based on actual events.
This again was a movie that had entertaining qualities to it. When combined with the cast it is probably worth watching, just don't have your expectations too high.
