Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Luke S — 07 Sep 2012
When I think of Scorsese films Gangs of New York is never the first one to come to mind. To me it's almost a forgotten masterpiece. For a film no more than 10 years old, staring DiCaprio and Day-Lewis, hardly anyone seems to have seen it. And yet it's pure brilliance. Maybe DiCaprio's character Amsterdam is a lil forgettable (a rare thing for any part played by DeCaprio), but Daniel Day-Lewis's Bill Cutting is really something impressive. One of my personal favorites. A performance beyond anything I think the majority of actors capable of.
Other small parts by John C.Reilly, Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson and even Cameron Diaz (maybe her best performance, yet still hardly worth mentioning) all add greatly.
