Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Brian F — 26 Jan 2013
Quite possibly the best film Martin Scorsese has made in the 21st century. Damning with faint praise? Clearly not as good as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, or Goodfellas (which, to be fair, each can be legitimately argued as the best American film of their respective decades) but a very good movie, despite that.
Overly long, and an ending that falls a little flat are not enough to drag down the brilliant shooting, editing, design, and acting, highlighted, of course, by Daniel Day-Lewis as Bill The Butcher.
