Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Ben L — 04 Aug 2014
The problem is that everyone calls this one of Martin Scorsese's weakest films. That may very well be true, but if it is then that is a compliment to Scorsese. The movie is long yet I never found it to be boring.
It's epic and well shot, and even though Leonardo DiCaprio's accent annoyed me during some of the monologues, it couldn't pull me away from the film's best part which is Daniel Day-Lewis.
His performance is ferocious. This is a massive spectacle and Scorsese does a bang up job.
