Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Jim H — 20 Jun 2014
Excellent story. Good acting by all. Casting was fantastic. But still one common thread that most excellent Scorsese films have: it's an hour too long. And apparently, he had to struggle to find a movie company that would fund the project, and I can see why: if you are not a history buff (or part-Irish), this story is incredibly (and sometimes excruciatingly) hard to follow.
Hence why it is a five-star movie for those that fall into the categories listed above; and a three-star movie for the rest of us.
