Review of Gandhi, My Father (2007) by Eric O — 09 Feb 2008
There were reportly only 2 people Gandhi said he could never convince, Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Pakistan's first leader) and his eldest son. the film is gets into a rather fascinating, overlooked and much forgotten side of Gandhi's history. I must admit Sir Ben Kingsley is a better Gandhi, but Darshan Jariwala does a pretty solid job as well, as does the actor that plays Harilal Gandhi. I found the movie to end a bit abruptly (text that describes the rest of the history is a bit of a cop out for an ending) but nevertheless its a good watch. I wouldn't go into this unless you at least seen the 1982 film Gandhi or know some of his history, since this film was created for an Indian audience and takes some assumptions on terms and names that would be common knowledge to them.
Best (and only?) Bollywood film i've ever seen.
