Review of Gamer (2009) by Zack S — 01 Jul 2011
Everybody that knows me is well aware or should be aware that I enjoy playing video games as much as the next nerd. So I was more than happy to watch this. Surprisingly, not only was I extremely underwhelmed, but I felt I had only wasted my time and I think a part of my brain died after watching this. It has a great concept, but the execution is terrible. I consider this a great cast, but good lord, could the dialogue and acting be any stupider? Terry Crews had the only fun character in the entire movie. Everyone else was cheesy, corny, and lame. Which is a surprise because I do consider Gerard Butler a good actor, but this was really disappointing.
On the one plus side, I did like the action sequences but honestly that was it. I hated the storyline and the way it was delivered. The whole plot involving Society really annoyed me the most. I don't mind sex or nudity at all in a movie but it has to be worth it dagnabbit! In Society, the user controls everything and there are some terrible explicit scenes where perverts will definitely get a kick out of. I sure as hell didn't! Terrible plot, terrible acting, terrible execution. Just plain terrible. I really hated this movie. Maybe I was expecting too much, but this movie still would have sucked without expectations. The only reason why I'm not giving this film a lower rating is because the action was worth it, but that's all!
