Review of Gamer (2001) by Ian A — 23 Jan 2011
Just when I thought this movie was a one trick pony, it pulled out all the stops and actually surprised me a little. The Broadway dance number scene makes it a two trick pony. Blatantly ripped off from The Running Man (itself a corny Hollywood re-imagining of Stephen King's short story), this movie tells of a future world where idiots entertain themselves by pretending to be someone else, and nobody really thinks for themselves anymore.
(You like that, huh? Yeah, it's called sarcasm.) I almost turned it off after 10 minutes, but it was free after all. I couldn't find any spoons within spitting distance or I'd have jammed one in each eye socket to make it stop.
A word of advice to Mr Butler: please learn how to pick good projects.
