Review of Gamer (2001) by Cameron J — 28 Dec 2011
The film features a nice score, good visual effects and a particularly terrific performance from Michael C. Hall, but especially boasts solid scene direction, fine cenimatography and incredible action sequences.
However, the film is often dull, sometimes to a painful extent. It is also moderately repetative early on, disturbing, overly gory and above all, extremely inconsistant. As for the generally bullet-fast pacing, it would have worked well were it not for the inconsistancies, which leaves all investment in the film to collapse, little by little, until the film ultimately becomes utterly forgettable.
So, to summarize, "Gamer" is a brief, unmemorable and jumbled-up mess that fails to live up to a very solid concept, but still stands tall from a technical standpoint and can best be described as a prime example of a "filler film.
