Review of Galaxy Quest (1999) by Jim C — 03 Sep 2012
This is an absolutely enjoyable science fiction parody, especially for fans of the "Star Trek" series. It follows the has-been cast of a faux "Star Trek" series called "Galaxy Quest.
" Tim Allen plays Jason Nesmith, aka Captain Peter Taggart, cocky and self-worshiping inside and outside of his role as the ship's captain (modeled, obviously, after William Shater and James T.
Kirk, respectively). The rest of the cast is fantastic and fits very well in their respective roles, all of which have identifiable real-world Star Trek counterparts. The "Galaxy Quest" cast gets swept up in an interstellar conflict after being recruited - reluctantly - by aliens who they confuse as obsessed fans.
The film is a riot as it parodies Star Trek cliches, conventions and of course, Trekkies.
