Review of Galaxy Quest (1999) by Taylor D — 03 Nov 2013
Yup, comedy has never been my strong point. Yet, I love sci-fi and Alan Rickman's character was easily my favorite. He was so grumpy! Weaver is her usual awesome self. This archetype of the strong female hero is timeless and relevant.
I think what the film is really all about is to be true to yourself. And when it comes to movies, give us something we haven't seen before. Easily the best part is when Rickman witnesses his alien fan die.
He says the line and it's both tragically funny and beautifully profound. In fact, all the aliens are terrifically funny. But whenever you're dealing with comedy, always ensure you have a moment or two of seriousness.
This will make your film have weight and emotional drama.
