Review of Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life (2010) by Banane D — 21 Oct 2010
A beautiful biopic, gorgeously shot. the puppetry adds a surreal twist that seems to match the bizarre life of its subject . it might skim over certain elements, but its a good length, and pretty informative (particularly music wise).
they could have made a really hateful figure out of gainsbourg given his tendency to drink and run, but you still like him come the end. anti-hero a go go. the performances are really solid, and there's a real sense of fun that seems to have gone into most of the shoot.
having caught this accidentally, I would definitely recommend it. you know, if its your sort of thing.
