Review of Gaga: Five Foot Two (2017) by Adam A — 23 Sep 2017
This documentary gave a personal look into the creation of Lady Gaga's latest album, Joanne, and everything that was going on in her life while it was in production. Some say that it was a little hard to emotionally relate to her experiences if you weren't an avid fan of her.
However, there were a lot of things that were touched upon in the film that many people, including non-followers, can relate to. The film brought awareness to many medical issues, including lupus, cancer, and fibromyalgia.
It shows that even though Gaga is a superstar, she is still human and is susceptible to being affected by health issues like anyone else. It also touches on the topic of death, as it showed how even the most elite cannot avoid experiencing death in their life (like her dear friend Sonja, who was taken by cancer).
There were scenes in the film where Gaga, who is often seen as a powerful public personality, was shown in a very fragile emotional state. We saw Gaga having a meltdown, we saw her cry, and we saw her laugh.
There was even that scene in the Wal-Mart where the staff did not know who she was. This proved that no matter how famous you are, there will always be somebody who will see you as just another person.
The film stripped Lady Gaga's persona and exposed the woman behind the superstar, giving the viewer a human perspective of her life. The film was masterfully directed, and the pacing of the story was just right.
I would definitely recommend watching this, it's a great film!
