Review of Gaga: Five Foot Two (2017) by Ayush M — 28 Sep 2017
What most documentaries do so well is making the viewer feel like a fly on the wall, the camera is never acknowledged. Gaga does not take this approach. I was somewhat startled when she said "You can't use any of the footage.
" while looking straight into the lens. I, the fly, was busted. Everything after that moment felt like I wasn't meant to see it. It felt way too exclusive. It shows her recording at her home, her in pain and crying, her having the time of her life while Martin Scorsese and millions of her other fans cheer.
Never has an hour and a half documentary changed my view of an artist to this extent. And for an artist who's songs I've been listening to the better part of a decade it really made an impact on me.
I hope Netflix listens to the amazing reception and realizes this is where it needs to put all that Marco Polo money. Can I get an Eminem documentary next please?
