Review of Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007) by Maria S — 17 Oct 2008

I remember picking this up the day it was released on DVD; I promptly rushed home, watched it once, and liked it so much I watched it again with the commentary on (its actually hilarious), watched all the special features, then watched the whole movie again later that evening with a friend.

As far as a movie adaption of the beloved series, they couldn't have done a much better job of incorporating nearly all of the characters into a single storyline. And speaking of the storyline, I must admit I'm impressed: the sheer complexity of the time travel scenario in the movie made my head hurt just trying to think about it.

Oh yeah, and its just as funny as the best the series has to offer. So then why am I docking this movie a whole star? One word: Songs. There are several times over the course of the movie where the cast of characters spontaneously breaks into song, and quite frankly they are all TERRIBLE, not in a so bad its good way, just flat out annoying.

As is often the unfortunate case with many movies, had they simply left out these hideous details this would unquestionably have gotten a higher score, but these transgressions are simply to unbearable to overlook.

Nonetheless, an absolute neccesity for fans of the series,.
