Review of Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007) by Agustin G — 07 Feb 2009
Futurama is one of the smartest and funniest shows ever made, and the same writers have delivered an immensely satisfying, funny, and compelling feature length film adaptation. Granted, the longer runtime feels a lot longer than it is, making me feel like the story was stretched a little farther than it should have been, but the characters are so well established that it just works perfectly.
The strong love story between Fry and Leela drives the wonderfully preposterous main storyline forward, and there are countless appearances from beloved and obscure Futurama characters. What surprised me even more was the inclusion of a few meaningless and but interesting references to earlier episodes of the TV show.
This made many scenes more enjoyable. As far as humor goes, the film does not disappoint, as there are lots of memorable one-liners and monologues. Overall, this film is a pitch-perfect and amazingly nostalgic tribute/send-off to a brilliant show.
