Review of Fury (2014) by Jan D — 28 Apr 2017
Dear review reader,.
-Spoiler alert-.
This movie starts with a guy on the horse looking around what looks like scrapyard, but actualy is filmmakers take on battlefield. Then Pit jumpes out stabbing the guy in the face, release the horse and..... wait what? Yeah the guy on the horse stroll around the battle field on the horse no suppport no infantry no sense, also there is no one else in the area because Fury crew probably flaten everything that moved in the vicinity...... Taking closer look to the crew you discover that it is bunch of elderly man acting like spoiled teenagers on summer vacation, bullying each other out, constantly loosing it because...... hey, war is bad, right? Its not like that they have gone through the training and battles that tought them basic principles of survival and tactics and rational understanding that literally everyone in the tanks depends on everyone and they have to and want to cooperate.
Well... moving on.... crews goes back to the camp from battle and everybody in the camp is surprised because they thought everybody died which is pretty much normal in this war also Comander is not pissed about the fact no one went to look after them which is very odd. Also HQ is ok about it and no air, infantry or mechanized support is being send to close potential gap in line or investigate. One crew of the tank died and is replaced by a guy who was supposed to use typing machine of some sort..... anyway he is the only charcater that express sense for causality and rationality by being teryfied from the fact that he was assigned possition in which he could actualy do more harm than good, he is even more teryfied after he find out that his comanding officer is pissed about it, but he will let that mistake pass instead of reporting it back and requesting transfer.
Anyway he and Pit goes on to be friends and Pit even help him shoot hist first german, kinda in the breech of Geneva conventions, but its ok. Everybody around agrees and smile despite the fact that statistic and reports states some 80% of allied soldiers have strong affection against killing anything and would object strongly against such handling of prisoners. Prisoners do get shot during war usualy by neccesity of situation that is why the war is bad you are forced to do conflicting actions which you normaly condemn and people around you understand it..... killing unarmed people is not normal, is not normal today was not normal or accepted back then.
Anyway they do go on, the young guy is very convincig in being terified because of what happening around him and he has right to be.... there is no real command structure or planning except for one guy nobody listenning too... soldiers around him act like psychopats and rapist instead of coherent force on the offensive movement. It looks like everything around him is improvised and out of neccesity. Whole atmosphere looks like "two seconds to mutiny" and and pit wore german paratrooper haircut and shoots STG44 or possibly MP44.
Look I hoped this movie would give tribute to the people that had to go against bad ods, and they went and survived, by being practical and being able to keep cool even when things looks bad, instead you get crew that takes 20 secods to destroy machine gun nest which is located 20 meters dead on.
Movie try to say war is bad becouse bad things happens but refuse to follow causality and that is when it fails.
