Review of Funny People (2009) by Richard S — 28 Nov 2011
George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a prick from start to finish...so I didn't really see the point of the story, other than solidifying the fact that some people - are just pricks.
I had hoped to see a change in Simmons as the film progressed. Instead, he became even more self centred and selfish, which is why I didn't understand how Ira Wright (Rogen) could still put up with him.
I also thought that most of the Stand Up Comedy scenes weren't particularly funny...talking about dick and balls isn't quality Stand Up.
Most of the interesting characters are stuck on the side lines, but when they're given some screen time the actors make sure they deliver the goods.
There are some nice scenes in this and I can see what Apatow was trying to do, but after a solid start it slowly unravels into nothingness.
