Review of Funny People (2009) by Ben H — 18 Feb 2012
Well, I want a house like Eric Bana and Leslie Mann's characters had. Funny, because talking about houses, I drive by the apartment complex that Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, and Jason Schwartzman's character's lived in all the time on Melrose. Jason Schwartzman looks like an older guy trapped in a young guy's body, maybe it's just me.
The movie had me laughing a lot, which is good. It did, however, lead me to think a couple times, "Okay, where's Apatow taking this?"; because there were a couple parts where the story could've leaned a couple ways.
I think I'm used to seeing Judd's children a lot, or maybe I just watch Knocked Up too much. There's actually a deleted scene in 40 Year Old Virgin where Judd brings in his daughter into Smart Tech as 2 customers. Anyways, the point being I didn't see them as Eric Bana's or Clark's kids, but Leslie Mann's, not Laura's, but Leslie Mann's real kids in real life. So kind of a mind joggling experience.
I was drawn to Rogen's character a lot. As someone struggling to make it in LA, I totally felt the connection and hoping for an experience like his character's and George's. Not because of the sex, or mainly because of the sex ... okay maybe partially because of the sex.
Overall I recommend to any legal adult looking for a good laugh.
