Review of Funny Ha Ha (2003) by Eric R — 20 Apr 2011
The story of Marnie, a 23-year old woman who has just graduated from school and is rather up in the air about her future. She has no "sense of direction" and jumps from job to job. The film follows Marnie as she tries to make sense of it all.
She meets Alex, a boy who she likes, but he doesnt readily return to same feelings. Funny Ha Ha is another film in the post-college genre, but what makes it better than most is its very honest, truthful depiction of someone trying to figure out exactly what the want in life; yes, I realize how cliche this sounds.
Kate Dollenmayer ,who plays Marnie, is exceptional in this role. As the viewer you really get to understand the psychology of her character, whether you agree with it or not. The dialogue feels very genuine between the characters as well.
Worth checking out, and one of the better films of this particularly sub-genre.
