Review of Funny Games (1997) by Matt W — 23 Aug 2008
A contradiction in terms as a title 4 this film, cus in no way is the game the 2lads play is funny. But this film is something different and is bloody good for it. the premise for the film is new, its not like the slasher movie, its something alot more intelligent and thought out, this is my 1st dabble with a Michael heneke film and it blew me away, I was transfixed from within the 1st 5mins right to the final freeze frame shot.
Disturbing, is about the only way I can describe it. but very well thought out. its the shear sense of solitude and helplessness of the poor innocent family tht made the mistake of not giving out eggs to wat looks like two innocent well to do lads that makes the film so special and different.
I can only wonder wat the remake(by hanake himself) is like, dont knkow if its worth a try or no. but the nexxt time u go away for a holiday and ur asked to give out some eggs, just give them out. Highly recommended but not for people of a sensitive disposition.
