With a minimum of fuss and blood Haneke leaves Park Chan Woo, Lars Von Trier, Takashi Miike, Gaspar Noe, and other lesser talents such as Eli Roth in the dust. What makes Haneke's films so disturbing is that of all the shockmiesters mentioned above, his is the most persuasive, subtlest, and god help us all, wittiest.
