Maybe it's just because I saw the remake first, and because it's a shot-by-shot, line-by-line remake that I didn't get as "involved" with this original as I would have had I not seen the remake first.
The biggest thing for me is that Michael Pitt seems more right for the Paul character than Arno and Pitts overall presence throughout the film is creepier, in my opinion.
