Review of Funny Face (1932) by Jessica B — 27 Sep 2007
I almost wish this movie had no plot. I loved the dancing, the song numbers were memorable, the sets were dazzling, the costumes original... the plot stunk. It seems as if the moral of the movie is, "women are happy as long as they don't think".
Also, as much as I love an over-the-top dance number, I'm pretty sure this movie was aiming for some weird hybrid of realism and musical (as musicals automatically are not realistic). The FIRST time they accidentally danced onto a raft, I had to pause I was laughing so hard.
The SECOND time they did it... I just couldn't process it. Again, I honestly wish this movie had just been a series of really good song and dance numbers.
