Review of Funny Face (1932) by Jack C — 06 Apr 2009
In all of Hollywood could you think of a better pairing? In one corner we have beauty, grace, elegance; and in the other Audrey Hepburn. Seriously though "Funny Face" sizzles thanks to it's two leads and with the help of some damn catchy musical tunes it grooves.
Telling the classic 'ugly duckling' story, "Funny Face" flies between New York and Paris as the world of high class fashion photography is explored through the medium of dance. It's a great story and the two leads are superb, bouncing off each other like two fat kids on a trampoline.
The music as well is great and the dance routines (look out for Astaire's bullfighter solo) are often extraordinarily good. "Funny Face" is funny, and sweet. It's a great time for fans of transcontinental musical dance, and I'm sure there are a lot out there.
