Review of Fun and Fancy Free (1947) by Colin L — 18 Apr 2014
Only two stories are offered in this film: "Bongo with Jack & the Beanstalk." An alternate title they should have went with since that is essentially the gist of it. Though narrated by Jimmy Cricket from Pinocchio, it is just two cartoon shorts tied with each other with some live-action performance of Edgar Bergen.
That performance immediately out-dates the movie and comedy of the time (unless ventriloquist dummies are still your thing...or your a fan of Jeff Dunham.....p.s. Jeff Dunham sucks). The intervals between the cartoons are short, yet sadly the cartoons are not much to behold.
Bongo is too limited with it's characters and jokes. Jack and the Beanstalk on the other hand is a good adventure tale to have, though not leaving much to offer other than Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.
Though the Giant is pretty entertaining with the limited time he has.
