Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Ibraheem M — 02 Jul 2014
Great anti war film about the Vietnam war. It follows the Vietnam war theme of the time and compares favorably with the rest, but it isn't the best one. I haven't seen all the Vietnam movies of the time, I have yet to see Apocolips Now, but I think this will be one of the better ones.
My favorite Vietnam movie is We Were Soldiers, second is Hamburger Hill, and although this movies good, it dosent come close to them in my opinion. The first half of the movie at boot camp was not as good as I expected, and kinda let me down although it was funny, but the second half made up for that.
It shows how inhumane war turns soldiers, and is graphic and suspenseful. But the acting isn't great, some lines are poorly written and some things are overdone. Also I didn't like the scenes where they shoot at the buildings because of how the whole 4 story wall of the building would seem to explode in dust and exploding shells.
And thats not the only thing that largely exaggerated. Not the best Vietnam war movie but pretty good, and it nice that it includes a rural battle setting, which is a good change from other Vietnam war films.
