Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Seb M — 12 Feb 2013
Pogue Colonel: Marine, what is that button on your body armor?
Private Joker: A peace symbol, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Where'd you get it?
Private Joker: I don't remember, sir.
Pogue Colonel: What is that you've got written on your helmet?
Private Joker: "Born to Kill", sir.
Pogue Colonel: You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?
Private Joker: No, sir.
Pogue Colonel: You'd better get your head and your behind wired together, or I will take a giant crap on you.
Full metal is a unique entertaining war flick, "and I like unique and different movies especially the one that are made by the one and the only Stanley Kubrick". What I really enjoyed, and what I thought was different from any other war films was how entertaining and fun this movie was. This movie is really fun and comedic, it's not a generic war film that take it self serious like other war films. Don't get me wrong the movie is serious when it needs to be serious. What I thought was really neat was how the first part of the movie depicts training and getting to know certain characters, and the last half of the movies changes direction and becomes an all out war film. The cinematography makes the war scenes and battle sequence beautiful to watch. It would be an understatement to say that Full Metal Jacket is a war film masterpiece.
