Review of Frozen River (2008) by Maxine L — 18 Jan 2010
This movie wasn?t quite as depressing as I thought it would be, as it doesn?t have that tone to it. It?s just a really depressing situation for the characters. But it is a very original story and had 2 great performances. Plus, the production really takes you there. It is really an in element kind of movie. I am assuming there are no studios and very little set dressing. The story is also very original.
The one thing that actually took away from the movie was the low production value. That is of no fault of the movie makers, this is a low budget movie. But a lot of it really seems forced with the hand held digital placed it awkward placed. If this movie was given more funds, this could have been a very graceful movie where production wasn?t a distraction. That shouldn?t really be a fault, but when I start to get emotionally invested in what happened on a trip, I don?t want to see some odd shaking. For some, they can look past it or won?t notice. I tried, but still caught it. Still a great movie.
