Review of Frozen (2013) by Irene K — 04 Jan 2015
This movie had to grow on me. I much preferred Tangled and the Princess and the Frog, quite honestly. The best part of this movie is when Elsa tells Anna that she cannot "marry a man that [Anna] just met"; I share the same opinion when it comes to dating, relationships... among other things. The film is also interesting in that it is not the man who saves the woman, yet the women who saves themselves. A very different outtake on the traditional "fairytale" model of patriarchal heroism.
I think my biggest issue with this movie is one that many actually enjoy. Asides the "Snowman Song", the music was in no way memorable. "Let It Go" is repeated so often that it is simply annoying now and brazes the quality of the film.
I still recommend this movie for a nice, bundled-up, hot chocolate afternoon, but it is definitely not the greatest of Disney's latest works, regardless what the Box Office seems to suggest. Ad populum can be dangerous; 3/5 is about right.
