Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Yucky O — 27 May 2008
Nothing terribly original, but very well made.
It was quite a beautifully shot film, but struck me as extremely "more of the same" - a sort of modern day horror pastiche.
As far as the recent French wave of horror goes I definitely enjoyed Haute Tension much more though I have yet to see Inside.
The gore ... it wasn't nearly as intense as I had expected. It seemed to me that Rambo 4 had more brutal violence than this film.
Also, there were some pretty interesting sub-plots (particularly the underground dwellers) that could have provided some creative narrative development, but were not explored at all.
Worth watching, but didn't resonate with me.
