Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Simon B — 01 Jan 2009
Before director Xavier Gens failed miserably with Hitman, he actually a pretty great and nerve-wracking horror piece that echoes The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, except this time the hillbilly family is a group of cannibalistic Nazis.
Every now and then Frontier(s) certaintly attempts to be gross for the sake of doing so and flirts with torture porn elements, but then it'll take an entirely different direction and do something either really well, unexpected, or sometimes both.
I would've loved were this actually set during WWII and not modern times, but this film is just another excellent example that France is spearheading the next generation of horror cinema.
