Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Ken T — 01 Nov 2010
In the wake of a new ultra-right wing candidate being elected to the Presidency of France, a group of young people have decided to take advantage of this and steal plenty of money. They now must leave Paris and head to the frontier.
There they stop in at a rather remote inn (sound familiar?) Essentially take the story of Psycho, add more characters, turn it into The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and then add a ton more blood, guts and carnage and you have Frontiere(s).
The biggest problem though is that although it has the squirm factor, it certainly is lacking in the scare department. It is tough to like the characters and really care about their fates. And Xavier Gens does a horrendous job with the movement scenes (running or driving action).
There are so many angles and cuts - it is dizzying and distracting. Bottom line - if you want gore, Frontiere(s) delivers, just don't be expecting originality.
