Review of From Paris with Love (2010) by Liam C — 11 Dec 2013
Oh boy, what a fun movie! This movie was great and a perfect start to the day. John Travolta was the icing on the cake though. His character was brilliant and he plays him so well. This role had to be made just for him because I cannot see anyone else in this role! Probably due to the fact that all I saw was his character and not him (probably because he was bald).
Meyers also did a good job but next to an eccentric Travolta who just fell in love with his character? No chance. Not to completely write him off, the two had great chemistry and really worked well with each other, to the point where I actually cared about their safety.
I really like these two characters and I would really like to see them again. I know John Travolta said he wasn't much of a sequel person but he would like to do another one of these and I sure as hell would like another one.
However, the movies these two make (Besson and Morel) don't seem to do well at the box office, besides Taken, they seem to just about get their budget back but since this movie was released it has garnered a huge following, so who knows? Besides my love for these characters and their interplay, the movie was actually pretty good itself.
The script was smarter than a usual movie of this type and was genuinely funny, I laughed at the dialogue in this film and in movies like this that usually does not happen. This movie also had some shocking moments too but I can see where the negatives do come in though, if you're not paying attention things will seem a bit confusing and muddled but it isn't that hard to pick up, this isn't the damn Matrix we're watching here.
Also, at the start it begins quite seriously and I thought this was going to be about double agents or something but before long it picks its tone and sticks with it. I'm sure if Travolta and Meyers were not present I would not have liked it as much as I did but they were here, and this is the movie I watched.
Loved it. Don't pay attention to ratings and judge a movie for yourself, chances are, you just might like it.
