Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Justin C — 22 Nov 2005
I liked this film. It wasn't particularly impressive or moving, but the story was excellent, and the cast did a wonderful job. I could even go so far as to say that I was dissapointed with From Here to Eternity.
I wanted to be more engaged and moved. I wanted to give it a ten. They say it is a classic. It got four stars in Leonard Maltin's video guide, and it won 8 oscars including best picture. The most I can say is that it was entertaining and brilliantly acted; wich isn't that bad.
There wasn't enough character development to make it heartfelt. From Here to Eternity suffers from a problem that most old movies suffer from. It has an abrupt ending. This is very annoying since the actual buildup is superb.
While a little dissapointing if you have high expectations, it is still is a must-see if you like classics.
