Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Giffy G — 29 Jul 2007
I'm honestly surprised how much I liked this movie. Had I met the majority of the characters in real life, I would despise their very existences: I live in a very different paradigm. I was surprised to learn how complex the movie's system of morality was.
That's what kept me watching. One of the most romantic moments in movie history (see cover art) turned out to be a moment of adultery. The moral hero faced a bad end because of his system of morals, so the world of the movie doesn't even reward you for good morals.
In fact, with one notable exception, immoral people fared well, moral people failed miserably. It was well-filmed, well-acted, and I once again must say, I am surprised how much I liked this movie.
