Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Henri L — 08 Apr 2008
I really love the simplicity of this movie. This movie is capable of telling so much with so little without reducing the scenes and the content of them to banalities. This is a true directors movie - it belongs to Zinneman all together.
Lancaster and Monty Cliff are both semi-good and Kerr is a true bright shining star. Sinatra though is kind of over-doing it and definitelt wouldn't have recieved the Academy Award if it hadn't been for his mob-friends pulling convincing tricks out of their deep pockets.
Entertaining and romantic and what a scene on the beach - beautiful! What a kiss! A must-see but not the greatest studio production from that period.
