Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Adam C — 16 Dec 2009
Man, I really wish that someone would come along and make a movie about how Hawaii is/was the playground for military personnel and single women from the mainland pre-Dec. 7, 1941. And then the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor and everything gets serious and everything changes in an instant in this playground/paradise. Man... why won't anyone make a movie depicting this? Oh, wait...
The sad thing about this film is that the majority of the story could be told in any place, in any time but it needs Pearl Harbor to tie the loose ends of the story together.
How many Pearl Harbor-related films are there? ...at least this one was A) one of the first and B) isn't the worst. No, that title belongs to Disney's "Pearl Harbor.".
