Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by John S — 18 Jan 2012
Definitely not one of my favorites. the characters in the film are somewhat 2-dimensional, and the melodrama intended does not function properly for me. somewhat bland, both in terms of cinematography and progression, but frank sinatra does give a great performance.
Other than that, I do not think using Pearl Harbor as the climax of a film is a good idea. how does it fit with the story, especially since none of the characters are killed in the bombings? (ps - spoiler) deborah kerr does a nice job in a smaller role, and donna reed is memorable at the end. in the end, this movie does not seem to be as relevant to today's society as it may have been years ago, and maybe that's why I had such a bland experience watching it.
