Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Muhammad K — 10 Aug 2012
Long and detailed movie that showcases many types of relationships - military, lovers, estranged husband/wife, tough guys, persecutor types, and more. Burt Lancaster plays the military first sergeant very convincingly, but he was the last guy in the cast that I thought would fall in love with the Captains estranged wife.
However the relationship comes across as realistic, and showing again like in so many 50's movies that couples in those days react too quickly and immaturely to relationship issues. On the other hand, they sure were very passionate and emotional back then.
One disappointment was the famous beach-waves-kissing scene: it was a couple of seconds and I almost missed it! Still, worth a rental.
