Review of From Hell (2001) by Liz H — 11 Aug 2010
The first of the great Alan Moore collection being made into a movie. It's nice to watch Johnny Depp do his crazy englishman routine. He performs very well alongside Robbie Coltrane (whom most of you know as Hagrid from Harry Potter).
It's violent, bloody (not gory really, but bloody), has minor nudity and sexuality. It's about Jack the Ripper, and it's based off of a famous graphic novel sitting on my shelf in my room.
The plot is very well strung together. It reminds me of Sherlock Holmes that's rated R and has way less action. More suspense and alot more blood. It fairly well portrays the english sentiments of it's time, so I guess it qualifies as a period piece too.
I guess. It's long, so when you watch it make sure you have the time. You do have to pay attention so this is more for your thriller fans than you're horror fans. Not a bad rental.
